Preschool Science Activities to Learn the Seasons

One concept that many preschoolers will need to learn is the seasons of the year. The different seasons correspond to different weather conditions and thus, different apparel. This preschool science activity covers both topics: seasons and clothing. Such a thing may seem unimportant because, after all, preschoolers are dressed by their parents. However, this is a good introduction to cause and effect relationships. Because the weather is cold, we wear coats, mittens and scarves. When the weather is warm, we'll wear bathing suits, Hawaiian shirts, floppy beach hats and flip-flops. When the weather is rainy, we need a raincoat and an umbrella. Although the worksheet asks for the apparel for only one of the seasons visible through the window, you can have your students identify all the seasons and the appropriate apparel. This colorful worksheet is a favorite on our site and is appropriate for children ages 3-5. If you need a black and white version, simply change your printer settings to grayscale or black and white.

Don't hesitate to teach young children about science. They may not understand the scientific method now, but they can be taught to observe their surroundings and to record or report what they've noticed.
